"Sumo" is Japanese national sport loved by many people. Now, not only Japanese but also people in the world are attracted by the charm of sumo. The history of sumo is long; it started as a shrine ritual at a religious festival originally, became the present form in the Edo period, and has continued to exist as the oldest martial art /sport in Japan until the present day. The Grand Sumo Tournament is sponsored by the Japan Sumo Association and held at six places every year, and each tournament of places has its champion.
